E-biking in summer: how to keep your cool.

We take advantage of the good weather and warm temperatures to cycle to work or to the outdoor pool, and to go on long tours at weekends. We have compiled eight tips for you to make sure that the exertion doesn't get too much when temperatures soar.

1. Enough fluids

Drink plenty of water before you set out on your e-bike. If you have planned a long tour, be sure to take drinks with you for en route.

2. The right clothing

In summer, thin and airy materials are best: the lighter (in both senses of the word), the better.  If it is still chilly in the morning, a light functional jacket will keep you warm. A helmet will protect your head from the sun when riding, and a headscarf will prevent sunstroke during breaks, especially in children.

3. Sun protection

It is extremely important that you remember to apply sun cream. People often forget to put cream on their ears, the backs of their hands, and their calves. It is best to wear sunglasses to protect your eyes against UV radiation. Special cycling glasses are available from the specialist trade with light-reactive lenses that get darker as soon as it gets brighter.

4. A lot of luggage?

When temperatures reach their highest point, it may be helpful to place your rucksack or bag on the luggage rack or in the basket to prevent heat from building up unnecessarily on your back.

5. What time is it?

Whenever possible, start your tour in the early morning so that you can make the most of the cool temperatures and avoid the strongest UV radiation between 11am and 3pm.

6. Planned a family outing?

A child trailer offers comfort and shade to children travelling with you, while a sealed fly screen provides protection against insects. A little tip: wet towels also have a cooling effect.

7. The right snacks

Make sure that you eat snacks that are rich in vitamins and minerals. Fruit and vegetables are the best option here to rebalance electrolyte levels.

8. And finally: take your time.

Take it easy and slow down on inclines and when the wind is against you, in particular, and enjoy the cooling wind in your hair.

Enjoy a wonderful FLYER e-bike summer!
