FLYER Food Guide: the ideal breakfast for cyclists.

Riding your FLYER e-bike through the winter is the best way to ensure that you are fit and healthy. However, as your body has higher energy and calorie requirements on winter tours, the right breakfast becomes more important than ever.

If you have planned a longer tour of 60 to 80 kilometres, or maybe even more, it is worth eating a balanced breakfast to provide you with the energy you need.

We recommend muesli or porridge to ensure you obtain high-quality energy before setting off on a tour. From classic Birchermüsli to apple porridge, and to more exotic options such as strawberry-chia-coconut muesli, the selection of mueslis on offer today leaves nothing to be desired and caters to every taste. 

Carbohydrates for increased energy.

Muesli is full of important nutrients, such as fibre and carbohydrates, which fill the glycogen stores in your liver and ensure that you have sufficient strength and endurance for long tours. Glycogen is found in fruit, sugar-free muesli, and other wholegrain products. Bananas and grapes provide the most energy compared to other types of fruit. Choose high-quality carbohydrates with a low glycaemic index, such as wholegrain porridge oats.

Whether on epic trails, on winding roads, on a tour through forests or around a lake, eating muesli in the morning is an ideal way to prepare for your rides.

How to make your FLYER e-biker muesli.

  • The muesli is based on 250 g finely milled wholegrain porridge oats
  • 100 g coarse spelt flakes for a hearty and nutty flavour
  • 50 g mixed seeds consisting of pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and pine nuts
  • 50 g walnuts or 20 g chia seeds provide Omega-3 fatty acids for your brain and heart
  • 50 g flaked almonds lighten the mixture and add crunchiness to the muesli
  • 50 g linseeds provide fibre, keep you full for longer, and ensure healthy digestion
  • 100 g dried fruit of your choice. Our recommendation: cranberries, blueberries, and sour cherries. They are juicy, sweet and rich in health-boosting antioxidants.
  • Or: 100 g fresh fruit such as bananas, grapes or apples

Depending on which ingredients take your fancy, you now have 650 g of home-made FLYER e-bike muesli, which makes about ten portions. Simply add fresh milk, yoghurt, or quark to taste and you are ready to set off on your tour.
