How to charge your e-bike battery en route or to transport a spare battery with you.

If you are uncertain whether your e-bike battery will last for the day's intensive tour, you can either charge your e-bike battery en route or simply take a spare battery with you.

If you need to overcome great differences in altitude or are on a tour that lasts for several days, you may be unsure about whether to simply charge your e-bike battery en route or whether to take a spare battery with you to cover all eventualities.

How to charge your e-bike battery en route.

Plan to stop at a restaurant or to spend the night in a hostel so that you can simply charge your e-bike battery during your lunch break or the evening before the next day's leg. It basically takes about two hours to charge your e-bike battery to 50%. The time it takes to charge will, however, depend on the electrical current of your charger (indicated in amperes, A for short) and the capacity of your e-bike battery (indicated in ampere hours, Ah for short).

The FLYER Smart Integrated Battery SIB-630, for example, has a capacity of 16.75 ampere hours. The corresponding charger has a current of 4 amperes. If you charge your battery for 2 hours, you will achieve a capacity of 8 Ah (charger current, i.e. 4 A, multiplied by 2 hours’ charging time), which corresponds to about half the total capacity of your battery (16.75 Ah). You can use this simple calculation to work out the charging time of your battery. If you have a FLYER e-bike with a Bosch drive and battery, this can be calculated in the same way.

How to take your e-bike battery with you.

If you have planned a long tour off the beaten tourist track where you need to overcome great differences in altitude, we recommend that you take a spare battery with you. Simply store it in your panniers or in a saddle bag.

If you are out and about on your e-mountainbike, it is best to use a bike rucksack with an integrated battery compartment. In order to transport your battery safely, make sure that the battery compartment is either securely sewn into the rucksack or that it can be fixed to the inside of the rucksack. This means that the battery will be firmly positioned against your back without shaking and will not affect ergonomics.
