Here you will find a brief overview of the individual components of FLYER e-bikes.


1 - Operating Console (Display)

FLYER D1 display and FLYER RC1/RC2 remote controls

The FLYER D1 display is the high-end display and operating console for our e-bikes FIT (FLYER Intelligent Technology). This clear, high-definition and colour screen ensures that your data is optimally displayed, even in bright sunlight.

We place great value on intuitive handling, including while you ride. The FLYER RC1 or RC2 remote control lets you navigate safely without taking your hands off the handlebars. The FLYER D1 display offers the full range of FIT functions such as various information about your ride, navigation, fitness stats and much more. With certain models, you can also change gears either using the FLYER RC1 remote control or in automatic mode.

FLYER D0 display

The FLYER D0 display was developed for FLYER e-bikes with a Panasonic drive without FIT. Small and inconspicuous, it displays the most important information in the smallest of spaces. It is mounted depending on the e-bike and area of use: on Tour and Urban e-bikes it is above the stem, and on FLYER e-mountainbikes it is next to the stem to protect it against knocks. The two-inch colour display stands out for its excellent readability in daylight and in the dark. It can be operated safely and intuitively using the FLYER RC0 remote control.

Displays by Bosch and Panasonic 

FLYER e-bikes with a Bosch drive are fitted with original displays by Bosch. The compact Bosch Purion features as a basic fitting on all e-mountainbikes. Stripped back to the essentials, this minimalist display offers all the basic information at the push of a button. The FLYER TX and Gotour6 series are kitted out with the clear Bosch Intuvia display mounted right in the middle of your field of vision. Thanks to the separate operating console, your hands can remain safely on the handlebars. All FLYERs with a Bosch drive have the option to be fitted with the Bosch Nyon display. This on-board computer has an impressive range of sophisticated functions, for example its navigation and fitness functions, and can also be connected to a smartphone.

The FLYER T and C series, the FLYER Flogo and Pluto and the FLYER Tandem are kitted out with original displays by Panasonic and the corresponding operating consoles.

2 - Drives

FLYER uses a centrally mounted mid-drive motor. This drive concept is characterised by an ideal weight distribution and low centre of gravity. Whatever the speed, the mid-drive motor always works at the ideal number of revolutions per minute and with the greatest degree of efficiency – whether on a slow uphill ride in a low gear or at high speed with a high gear ratio. To perfectly meet the needs of each customer, the most suitable drive system is used for each FLYER.

Pushing/setting-off aid

The pushing aid (only for models up to 25 km/h) is activated via the display's operating console and is limited to 6 km/h in the highest gear. The FLYER can conveniently be moved out of underground car parks or along steep passageways at the touch of a button. The setting-off aid is limited to 18 km/h in the highest gear and makes pushing and setting off easier – especially on inclines.


3 – Batteries

All FLYER e-bikes are fitted with high-performance batteries with cell types that have been specially developed for use in e-bikes. They boast a perfect balance between capacity, performance, weight and service life.

 

Safety and long life expectancy

A battery management system is integrated into the FLYER battery to protect the battery against overcharging, undervoltage and overheating. Single cell monitoring ensures safe, reliable and gentle charging. This results in the longest possible life expectancy of FLYER batteries.

 

Volts, ampere hours and watt-hours

The system's operating voltage is measured in volts [V]. The charging level or capacity is expressed in ampere hours [Ah]. The energy content and thus the size of the "tank" are described in terms of watt-hours [Wh].

 

Compatibility

The batteries are only compatible within their product lines.

 

Charger

Each FLYER is supplied with the correct charger for its battery. The battery can either be charged while fitted directly to the bike or externally.

 

Range – as far as you'd like.

The range of an e-bike plays an important role in allowing you to enjoy longer rides

4 - Speed gears

Whether it's a low-maintenance belt drive, a practical hub or a sporty derailleur gear system, there is a selection of options for each FLYER model depending on its area of use. Long-term cooperation with leading gear manufacturers ensures perfect coordination between drive and gears.

On the road without a care with a robust and low-maintenance drive. FLYER uses the high-quality, carbon-reinforced Carbon Drive™ belt drives by market leader Gates. These impressive drives run smoothly and quietly, remain clean and are resistant to rust and dirt. Other plus points also include low maintenance costs and a lightweight design. The belt drive is an elegant and practical drive solution with a particularly long service life.

Hub gears

Hub gears are particularly well suited for everyday use on mainly flat to hilly terrain. The gear mechanism is protected from dirt and moisture inside the hub. Depending on the model, the gears are changed by twisting a grip shifter, a gear lever or even 100% automatically. A brief pause in pedalling is required when changing gears. It is also possible to change gears while stationary.

Derailleur gears

With derailleur gears, gears are changed by selecting a sprocket on the rear wheel cassette. Gears can also be changed under load. Derailleur gears are the most efficient thanks to minimal friction loss. This makes them ideally suited to sporty use on mountainous terrain and when the bike is pulling a trailer. Wear and tear is greater due to the changing chain positions, which is why derailleur gears require a slightly higher level of maintenance.

Panasonic (two-speed) 36-volt multi-speed mid-drive motor

Some FLYER mountain and Urban e-bikes are available with the Panasonic multi-speed mid-drive motor. The integrated two-gear unit can either be operated electronically via the FLYER RC1 remote control or 100% automatically. Combined with a derailleur or hub gear system, this unit offers a particularly broad transmission range - from low gears for the steepest inclines through to a high gear ratio for rapid descents.

5 - Saddles

Every FLYER e-bike is equipped with a saddle that is designed for comfort or sport depending on its area of use. To ensure optimum comfort, we only use saddles from established manufacturers.

7 - Wheels and tyres

When it comes to the wheels on our e-bikes, we focus on stability and safety. We only use products which meet our high requirements and have been developed for use on e-bikes: the FLYER rim with its e-bike-specific shape for increased stability, the premium-quality DT Swiss rims and complete wheels and Schwalbe tyres that boast low weight, high puncture protection and excellent control in open country depending on their area of use.

 

E-mountainbike 27.5" Plus tyres

Most FLYER e-mountainbikes are fitted with sizeable 27.5" Plus tyres or can be retrofitted with them at a later stage. The broader tyres enable you to ride at lower air pressures. This means greater comfort thanks to internal damping, greater control for the rider and greater grip, which is of particular importance for an e-mountainbike with high torque. Steep inclines studded with roots, loose gravel surfaces and slippery bends all become easy for any e-mountainbiker to handle - these tyres considerably enhance your riding enjoyment.

8 - Frames

Our hand-welded frames are made from premium-quality aluminium alloys. Their tubes are shaped using a hydroforming process, a manufacturing procedure which not only guarantees the highest precision and optimum power flux but also makes for an attractive appearance when coupled with subtle welding seams.

During the development stage, our engineers place great value on functionality and a long service life. The frames are specifically designed with the higher loads of e-bikes in mind and allow for a total weight of 149 kg.

The sophisticated internal cabling within the frame pipes offers optimum protection for the cables. This also creates a tidy look that meets the high design requirements of a premium e-bike. To ensure a flawless look over the long term, all frames are given a coat of tough and impact-resistant paintwork.

The chainstay on full-suspension FLYER e-bikes is based on a four-joint system. In this type of suspension kinematics, the spring deflection movement of the back wheel is smooth and even, ensuring sensitive responses and minimising the impact of the drive and brakes on the suspension. Our engineers optimise the kinematics for a smooth ride and for outstanding traction and efficiency. Large-scale industrial bearings at the centre of the wheels ensure rigidity and a long service life.

The FLYER geometrics are defined depending on the area of use and are thoroughly tested to guarantee the best riding performance and comfort. Every frame (except for the Tandem, Pluto and Flogo) comes in at least three sizes, meaning every customer can find the right frame to suit their height. Our frame geometrics.

9 - Stem and handlebars

To ensure perfect ergonomics, FLYER e-bikes are fitted with handlebars and stems that are adjusted to the relevant area of use. We use exclusively high-class quality components in our bikes.

SPEEDLIFTER TWIST

The Speedlifter Twist allows you to vertically adjust the handlebars in our comfort-oriented FLYER Tour series or rotate them by 90° by hand in just two steps (no tools required). This allows the FLYER to be stored in a space-saving manner.

10 - Brakes

Hydraulic disc brakes

Depending on their area of use, FLYER e-bikes are equipped with hydraulic disc brakes as standard. Disc brakes guarantee the highest braking performance under all conditions, making them the ideal choice of brakes for e-bikes.

Hydraulic rim brakes

Hydraulic rim brakes by Magura are legendary. They are characterised by fine modulation, high braking performance, low wear and the simplest maintenance.

V-Brakes

V-brakes are simple to maintain and are ideally suited to a folding bike. The cable pulls of the V-brake are robust and uncomplicated, making them ideally suited to the daily folding and unfolding of the FLYER Pluto.

11 - Suspension fork

Most FLYER e-bikes are fitted with a suspension fork that is suited to their area of use. In addition to better traction, a suspension fork above all provides greater riding comfort and protects rider and luggage against jolts.

FLYER only uses suspension forks which are made by leading manufacturers, are suited to e-bikes and meet the essential requirements in terms of rigidity and load capacity.

12 - Rear shocks

FLYER integrates high-quality rear shocks made by leading manufacturers RockShox and Fox that are specifically adapted to the kinematics of FLYER mountainbikes and make for a perfect chassis. Just like the suspension fork, the rear shock can be adjusted perfectly to the rider's weight, area of use and riding style. 13 - Seat posts

Suspension seat post

A suspension seat post protects your back and allows relaxed riding even when surfaces are uneven. Almost all FLYER Tour and Urban models are equipped with a suspension seat post as standard or can have it added as an optional extra.

Vario seat post

Depending on the model design, FLYER e-mountainbikes are fitted with an optional or standard vario seat post. The saddle can be lowered by up to 125mm in a stepless motion via a remote control on the handlebars. This ensures greater safety and freedom of movement on the go. Steep steps and routes are no longer a daunting prospect and the e-bike can lean into bends more dynamically. The remote control cable is integrated into the frame, protecting it and making it invisible.

Vario seat post

The steplessly adjustable Vario seat post can be operated from the handlebars and represents a great advantage in terms of comfort and safety when mountain biking. The locking mechanism can be released from the handlebars, the saddle can be pushed down steplessly into the correct position using your body weight and locked there - without having to take your hands off the handlebars. The cable for the seat post is invisibly integrated into the frame. 


14 - Lights

The high-quality LED light systems by Busch & Müller, Supernova and Lupine ensure optimum visibility and safety at night and at dawn and dusk. The lights are recharged via the battery. The power consumption is so low that you can ride with your lights on at any time and can benefit from additional safety during the day as well thanks to the tried-and-tested daytime running light. The lights can be conveniently and safely switched on via the operating console on the handlebars. A full beam and rear light function is also now available with some models.

15 - Anti-thieft protection

ABUS frame lock

The basic form of protection for FLYER e-bikes (except for FLYER e-mountainbikes) is the practical ABUS frame lock that is mounted directly onto the bike. For additional anti-theft protection, highly secure U-locks and folding locks from ABUS are available as an option.

 

ABUS Plus system on the battery lock

The ABUS Plus cylinder system lets your FLYER dealer use your key code card to order a bicycle lock that uses the same key as the battery lock. Your bike and battery are ideally protected against theft and, what's more, you only need one key.
