How do I operate the pushing/setting-off aid?

The pushing aid (only for models up to 25 km/h) is activated via the display's operating console and is limited to 6 km/h in the highest gear. The FLYER can conveniently be moved out of underground car parks or along steep passageways at the touch of a button. The setting-off aid is limited to 18 km/h in the highest gear and makes pushing and setting off easier – especially on inclines.

What do I do if my display shows an error message?

Battery

How do I store the FLYER battery correctly?

If the battery is to be stored for a longer period of time, e.g. over the winter, we recommend that you charge the battery to a capacity of 60 % and store it in a dry location at room temperature.


How can I influence the performance of my battery?

You should always follow the instructions in the information about storing the battery correctly. In winter conditions, a battery cover protects the battery from the cold and optimises its performance.


How many charge cycles does the battery have? Can I charge the battery at any time or do I have to wait until it is fully discharged?

Modern lithium-ion batteries no longer have a charge memory. A charge cycle only registers as a charge cycle when one charging process or several charging processes correspond to a 100 % charge. This means that if you charge your battery 20 % five times, for example, it will register as one charge cycle in the battery management system.

Even after being charged more than 500 times, a battery will on average still retain a high capacity of 60 to 70 %. This means that a battery would be sufficient for up to 57,000 km - or one and a half times around the globe!

It is important to ensure that the battery is active for at least a short period of time every six to eight weeks. This means that you should either use it briefly or connect it to a charger briefly to prevent the battery from going into deep sleep mode. As waking from this state causes severe stress to battery cells, they may be irreparably damaged in the process.


How do I charge the battery?

You can charge the battery at any time either separately from or on your FLYER e-bike without reducing its life span. Interrupting the charging process does not damage the battery. Bosch and Panasonic batteries are characterised by durable energy storage with no charge memory. An integrated battery management system protects them against overcharging, undervoltage, overheating, and short circuits. Turn off the drive system before charging the battery and always charge the battery in a clean and dry location.


Can I have the performance/capacity of my battery checked? If so, where?

If you would like to have your battery performance checked, please contact your FLYER dealer.


Which factors affect the range of my FLYER e-bike?

The range depends on many factors. In addition to battery capacity, the selected level of engine assistance, geographical conditions, road surface, and not least the rider's weight and tyre pressure all play a decisive role. Check your tyre pressure regularly and adhere to the recommended inflation range printed on the sidewall of your tyre. Low temperatures in winter mean that your range will be reduced. Charge your battery inside and only attach it to your e-bike shortly before you set off. A battery cover can optimise the performance of your battery at low temperatures.

Where can the battery be returned to for disposal at the end of its service life?

Anywhere that sells batteries is obliged to take batteries back regardless of their brand. This means that a battery can be returned to your FLYER dealer or to the factory for disposal.


FLYER SIB (Smart Integrated Battery)

The battery is impressive - if you can find it. The FLYER Intelligent Technology (FIT) system has a simple yet sophisticated design. FLYER engineers and designers have managed to integrate state-of-the-art technology inconspicuously and seamlessly into the frame. However hard the blows, the Smart Integrated Battery (SIB) remains firmly attached to the bracket. At the same time, insertion and removal of the battery are straightforward.


Bosch PowerTube

The brand new Bosch battery concept integrates the battery elegantly into the down tube. The capacity of 500 Wh also guarantees the necessary range. The battery can easily be removed for charging or can be charged directly on the bike. The Bosch PowerTube battery can be installed horizontally or vertically. Horizontal installation provides FLYER comfort bikes with an elegant sideways silhouette and in no way limits riding performance in terms of safety and comfort. This applies to all frame shapes. On the FLYER Gotour6, a “secret compartment” specially designed by FLYER provides space for a rain cover or a small tool kit, which means you are ready for any tour.


Drive Systems

Panasonic mid-drive motor (X0)

The Panasonic drive system with its mid-drive motor and low centre of gravity in the middle of the e-bike guarantees the unique FLYER riding experience. It always has three assistance levels (eco, standard and high), and some models boast a fourth auto level. In auto mode, the level of assistance automatically adapts to the pedal performance, which allows an extremely efficient manner of riding (high level of assistance when riding uphill, standard assistance on flat terrain, and no assistance when riding downhill). Thanks to the extremely compact and low-noise 36 V direct drive, the mid-drive motor does not need a motor sprocket. This makes the FLYER more reliable and efficient, and guarantees an even smoother ride and the highest level of efficiency with the lowest level of wear and tear. The three-sensor concept measures torque, cadence and speed.


Panasonic two-speed mid-drive motor (X1/Multi Speed Assist)

The first e-bike motor with a two-gear unit massively expands the total gear ratio (up to 40% more “gears”), which results in outstanding climbing capabilities and a powerful drive system that expand the scope of an ambitious e-biker by an entirely new dimension. You can switch between the two gears of the multi speed assist system fully automatically or manually. When the convenient auto mode is activated, the gearbox independently recognises which gear to select based on measurements of speed, acceleration, and pedal frequency. The system then automatically performs the switch between gears. The drive and gearbox of this new and intelligent component ensure a unique riding experience with uncompromising performance.


What does auto mode mean in the Panasonic drive system?

In auto mode, the level of assistance automatically adapts to the topography, which allows an extremely efficient manner of riding (high level of assistance when riding uphill, standard assistance on flat terrain, and no assistance when riding downhill).


In which case will my FLYER e-bike have a pushing or setting-off aid? What do I need the pushing or setting-off aid for?

Setting-off aid (not to be confused with pushing aid): The setting-off aid is limited to 18 km/h in the highest gear and makes pushing and setting off easier - especially on inclines. All S-pedelecs (assistance level of up to 45 km/h) have a setting-off aid. Pedelecs (assistance level of up to 25 km/h) have a pushing aid up to 6 km/h.

Pushing aid: The pushing aid, which can be switched on via the operating console of the display, is limited to 6 km/h in the highest gear. The FLYER can conveniently be moved out of underground car parks or along steep passageways at the touch of a button. All FLYER pedelecs have a pushing aid. S-pedelecs have a setting-off aid up to 18 km/h.


General Questions

What do the various series names mean (F Series, C Series, U Series)?

The C Series stands for “comfort”, but the other names no longer have any significance and are simply added to the product portfolio in the appropriate position.


Which speed categories are e-bikes available in? 

FLYER e-bikes are available with assistance levels of up to 25 km/h and up to 45 km/h. You will find the right FLYER e-bike customised to your wishes and needs in our range.

What is the permitted total weight of my FLYER e-bike? Which components are included in the total weight?

The permitted total weight of our FLYER e-bikes in the Mountain segment is 130 kg.

The permitted total weight of our FLYER e-bikes in the Tour segment is 149 kg (exception: 210 kg for the FLYER Tandem).

The permitted total weight of our FLYER e-bikes in the Urban segment is 149 kg (exception: 130 kg for the FLYER Pluto).

The e-bike's own weight is included in the total weight and is 22-25 kg on average.


How do I find the right frame size for me?

We recommend that you always take the bike on a test ride since there may be some discrepancies depending on your body proportions.

How are our frames developed and produced?

Our premium-quality, hand-welded aluminium frames were specifically developed for e-bikes. They allow a total weight of 130 -149 kg and are designed for heavy loads. In addition to their stability and rigidity, e-bikes with low step-through frames boast the lowest step-through.

All FLYER frames are made from hydroformed tubes. The hydroforming production process guarantees the highest level of precision and allows individual shaping. Frames are welded by hand into highly resilient and durable e-bike frames and carefully lacquered. To meet the high design specifications of premium e-bikes, the cables are integrated into the tubes, which provides optimum protection.

FLYER e-bikes are put to the acid test in our own testing laboratory and in recognised external test institutes – frequently beyond existing standards. Our constant aim is for our e-bikes to provide safety, comfort, and riding enjoyment in any situation.


Where can I find the frame number of my FLYER e-bike?

The position of the frame number depends on the FLYER series.

The usual positions are:

  • on the sides of the rear frame tubing
  • on the seat tube of the frame
  • on the rear wheel suspension

Can I buy a FLYER e-bike from the showroom in Huttwil?

If it is not a pre-owned FLYER e-bike, your newly configured FLYER e-bike will need to be produced first, and cannot be bought directly from the showroom. As soon as the FLYER e-bike you would like has been produced, it will be delivered to a local FLYER dealer and you can collect it from there.


Technology

Can I order and retrofit a stand or mudguards for my FLYER e-mountainbike?

Mudguards and luggage racks can be ordered at the beginning or subsequently for our FLYER Uproc1 4.15, FLYER Uproc2 4.15, and FLYER Uproc3 4.15


Does FLYER offer a model with a belt drive?

Our FLYER Upstreet5 can be fitted with a Gates belt drive as an option.

How do the continuously variable Nuvinci/Enviolo gears work?

The rider uses the Harmony Advanced Controller to select and calibrate pedal frequency by using the grip shifter in the blue (= pedal frequency) display mode until the desired setting is reached and displayed. With the Harmony Base Controller, the rider selects one of three pre-set pedal frequencies by simply pressing a button.

While the rider pedals, the sensors of the weather-protected Harmony hub interface record pedal frequency and speed. In parallel, the interface continuously and fully automatically calibrates the transmission so that the selected pedal frequency remains constant based on the quality of the road and the external conditions.

The Harmony Advanced Controller also offers the rider the option of changing gears manually and thus of directly controlling the continuously variable transmission (orange display mode). The gears are changed by simply turning the shift lever. Should I choose hub gears or derailleur gears?

The choice of gears depends mainly on the FLYER e-bike's area of use. With derailleur gears, gears are changed by selecting a sprocket on the rear wheel cassette. Gears can also be changed under load, which means that derailleur gears are particularly well suited to sporty use in mountainous terrain and to pulling a trailer. Hub gears are particularly well suited for everyday use on mainly flat to hilly terrain. The gear mechanism is protected from dirt and moisture inside the hub, which makes it low maintenance.


How much electricity does my FLYER e-bike need?

A FLYER e-bike uses about 1 kilowatt of electricity over 100 km. Depending on your electricity provider, this corresponds to 15-20 cents.

What do I need to be aware of and check before I use my FLYER e-bike?

Before you go out on your next tour, check the air pressure in your tyres and ensure that the battery is fully charged, the suspension fork (if there is one) is set for you, and the brake pads are not worn down. All you need now is bright sunshine and you can set off on your tour with your FLYER e-bike.

How old do I have to be to ride a FLYER e-bike?

FLYER e-bikes with an assistance level of up to 25 km/h may be ridden from the age of 14 years, but only with a valid category M driving licence (for motorcycles). 

FLYER e-bikes with an assistance level of up to 25 km/h may be ridden from the age of 16 years.

FLYER e-bikes with an assistance level of up to 45 km/h may be ridden from the age of 16 years but only with a valid category M driving licence (for motorcycles).
