General questions

Who is my contact person if I need to know something about my FLYER e-bike?

Please contact an official FLYER specialist dealer with your inquiry. The dealers are our local representatives and therefore your contact person for anything to do with FLYER.

What is the frame number used for and where can I find it?

The frame number is the individual identification number of your FLYER e-bike. Each frame number is issued just once and provides information about the production, delivery date, service history, and more. If you have your frame number to hand, your dealer can immediately access the most up-to-date information about your FLYER e-bike.

In most cases you will find the frame number on the seat tube stamped into the frame.

Our tip: Write down your frame number in the service booklet, on a piece of paper or store it in your smartphone. This way you are prepared the next time you visit your FLYER specialist dealer.

How do I reset the time for my FLYER e-bike ?

You have a FLYER e-bike with FIT

If you have a FLYER e-bike with FIT, open the settings menu. Navigate to “Basic settings” and select this option. In the Basic settings you will find the “Time” menu, where you can set the current time. Remember to confirm the new time. This will ensure that you are always in the right place at the right time.

You have a FLYER e-bike with a Bosch drive.

If your Bosch display has GPS – as is the case with the Bosch Nyon, for example – the time is set automatically, so you don’t have to do anything. If it doesn’t have GPS, for instance if you have the Bosch Intuvia, it’s still easy to change the time manually.

For the Bosch Intuvia, open the settings menu by pressing the “Reset” and “Info” buttons at the same time. The first item in the menu is the time, which you can then set as required. For the Bosch Kiox display, the time options are under “System settings” in the settings menu.

For more information on your display and its functions and settings, consult your operating instructions.

I have lost my key, what can I do? Can a lost key be reordered?

Keys can be reordered in most cases. Please contact your specialist dealer. To reorder a key, your specialist dealer will need the frame number of your e-bike, if available, the spare key or the included Abus Key Card.

I’ve lost my FIT Key Card. What should I do?

If you have lost your FIT Key Card, please contact a FIT specialist dealer.

What is the permitted total weight of FLYER e-bikes?

The total weight includes the weight of the e-bike, the weight of the rider and all loads and luggage. Here you will find an overview of which FLYER model is approved for which maximum weight.

What is the pedaling frequency and its effects?

The pedaling frequency is given in revolutions per minute (rpm for short). We recommend a pedaling frequency between 70 and 90 revolutions per minute. The pedaling frequency can influence the performance and heat development in the motor, the range of your battery as well as the wear and tear of the drive components. Read the Operating instructions to see if your FLYER shows the pedaling frequency, or ask your FLYER specialist dealer for more information.

Purchase & Delivery

Where can I get advice and test ride the FLYER e-bikes?

Consultations and test rides are offered by the official FLYER specialist dealers. You can find a FLYER specialist dealer in your area by using the Dealer search.

Where can I buy a FLYER e-bike?

We have a wide network of qualified FLYER specialist dealers where you can purchase a FLYER e-bike. Find a FLYER specialist dealer in your area.

How do I find the right frame size for me?

All size recommendations serve as a guide only. We recommend that you always take the bike on a test ride since there may be some discrepancies depending on your body proportions.

What does RRP (recommended retail price) mean?

As a manufacturer, FLYER is subject to antitrust law. In the interests of fair competition, price fixing is prohibited. Prices quoted by us are a non-binding recommendation to specialist dealers. The final selling price is determined by the specialist dealer.

What is the delivery time for a new vehicle?

As soon as you order a FLYER e-bike from the specialist dealer, they can give you an expected delivery date.

Why are delivery dates indicated as «expected»?

We only install purchased components. Their timely delivery determines our ability to deliver. Therefore, the delivery dates mentioned are “expected”. Unfortunately, postponements are to be expected at any time. Your FLYER specialist dealer can give you more information about the delivery dates.

Do I have to expect specification changes?

Supply bottlenecks repeatedly cause specification changes. As a manufacturer, we must reserve the right to make these changes in order to remain able to deliver.

What is the difference between Crossover and Mountain?

An e-bike from the Mountain segment (Uproc) is meant in particular for off-road rides. They are focused on performance and sportiness. An e-bike from the Crossover segment (Goroc) is made for different terrains. Whether roads, forest paths, easy trails – with the Crossover you can go anywhere.

What is the difference between a Fully (full suspension) and a Hardtail (front suspension)?

The Fully offers more comfort than a Hardtail bike, a safer riding feel, higher traction and more control. A Hardtail bike has fewer components. This gives you a lighter bicycle that is less expensive to purchase and maintain. Test the difference with one of our specialist dealers.

Should I choose a belt drive or a chain drive?

Which drive you prefer depends on your personal preferences. We differentiate between e-bikes with chain drive and e-bikes with belt drive:

The chain drive is widely used and offers a number of advantages. On the one hand, you can also change gear when pedaling under load. Changing gears is easy, giving you more control over your bike on uneven and steep stretches.

The belt drive is especially popular with touring e-bikers because it is very quiet and reliable. In this case, you never switch under load, which slows down the shifting process a little bit. For this purpose, a belt drive is particularly low-maintenance.

Of course, there is not one single correct answer as to which gear shift you should use on your bike. It’s best to try both at your specialist dealer and see which one suits you the most. Then, you can make the right choice for you.

Guarantee & warranty

Where can I make warranty claims?

Your contact is the FLYER specialist dealer from which you bought the e-bike. If you have registered for the FLYER Plus warranty, you can claim warranty services from all FLYER specialist dealers.

Can I also lodge a warranty claim directly with FLYER?

No, it is not possible to assert a warranty claim directly via FLYER. Your FLYER specialist dealer can inspect the affected vehicle directly on site and make expert statements on the relevant facts. Your FLYER specialist dealer may also be able to offer a suitable solution directly and independently or they can contact us and send us all the necessary documents.

Can warranty claims be rejected?

Yes, warranty claims can be rejected in accordance with section 4 of our general terms of warranty.

What happens if the FLYER specialist dealer who sold me the vehicle closes their business?

Unfortunately, the guarantee expires if the FLYER specialist dealer closes their business. You can have your claims processed via another FLYER specialist dealer, but they are not obliged to provide a guarantee and may charge you repair costs. If you have registered for the FLYER warranty, you can claim warranty services from all FLYER specialist dealers.

What do I need to consider when buying a second hand e-bike from a private individual?

Private individuals have no legal guarantee obligations whatsoever. You are not entitled to any guarantee or warranty vis-à-vis the private person who sells you a vehicle. In this case, check the second hand e-bike very carefully before you buy it.

Spare parts & accessoires

Where can I find spare parts or accessories for my FLYER e-bike?

Your FLYER specialist dealer will advise you on the right accessories and spare parts for your FLYER e-bike. They will tell you the price and availability and procure the required item.

Can I equip my FLYER with other attachments?

The standard attachments of your FLYER e-bike have been tested and approved individually and in combination for their operational safety. FLYER disclaims all liability for changes to the standard equipment. Deviating parts may affect the safety of the frame (e.g. suspension seat post in frames which have not been approved). Warranty claims will be rejected.

Can I attach a child trailer to my FLYER?

The FLYER child trailer offers a lot of comfort and safety. Children and shopping are well protected by the windproof and rainproof tops. Hier you can see for which models trailers are approved. Please note the maximum approved system weight as well as the “Important information” at the bottom of the page.

I want to transport my FLYER on the car. What do I need to keep in mind?

A clutch carrier is recommended for transporting e-bikes on a car. To be able to use one, your car has to have a trailer coupling. The permissible support load of your car and the net weight of the bicycle rack must be taken into account. This results in the payload: As a rule, you cannot transport more than two e-bikes. Please observe the country-specific regulations when transporting your e-bike with a bicycle rack.

Which bicycle rack is suitable for my e-bike?

Decisive purchasing factors for the clutch carrier are:

  • the frame shape of the e-bikes to be transported
  • matching brackets and stand rails
  • the permissible total weight (kg)

The mounting options on e-bikes with integrated batteries are actually limited. Seat tube and seat post are ideal for this. Therefore, a clutch carrier with a high support bracket is preferable. Ideally, test it with your e-bikes before you buy.

If your e-bike has a carbon frame, we advise against transporting the e-bike on a bicycle rack. The forces acting on the bike during transport can damage the carbon frame.

Maintenance & Upkeep

Who should I contact if I have any questions about my FLYER e-bike?

If you have a question about your FLYER e-bike or need a repair or service, get in touch with your FLYER specialist dealer. Specific attention can be given to the problem on the spot and on the vehicle.

You can also find information about your FLYER e-bike in your Operating instructions.

How much does a service or repair cost?

The specialist dealer is the reseller of FLYER and therefore your contractual partner. As a self-employed entrepreneur, they are free to set prices. They determine services, terms and conditions and hourly rates at their discretion.

What are the mandatory maintenance intervals?

The recommended maintenance intervals can be found in the operating instructions. The proposed maintenance intervals are recommended by FLYER AG. Individual intervals can be arranged with your FLYER specialist dealer. Warranty and guarantee claims may be rejected if the bike has not been taken care of and maintained correctly. However, this decision is not linked to compliance with maintenance intervals.

How long is the lifetime of a FLYER e-bike?

Our goal is that you can ride your FLYER e-bike, and be satisfied with it, for as long as possible. Some FLYER riders cover more than 100,000 kilometers with their e-bikes. Maintaining an older e-bike is often a hobby and requires a certain amount of idealism as well as a mechanic who has the time and passion to work on such a bike.

Otherwise, it may well be worth thinking about replacing your own e-bike after a few years: Many e-bikers who ride daily often buy a new vehicle after two to three years at the latest. This ensures that they are riding a state-of-the-art vehicle, that the maintenance costs are manageable and also that the second-hand e-bike can be sold for a good price.

Motor and battery are closed systems and belong to the wear and tear parts. Thus, you can expect to have to replace these components in the event of prolonged use. Spare parts are currently available for seven to eight years from the time of purchase.

My e-bike is showing an error code / message on the display, what should I do?

To protect against major damage, the system automatically blocks functions and draws attention to the problem with a short text on the display. For your safety, do not continue riding your bicycle. Read the “FLYER e-bike original operating instructions” and follow the instructions or ask your FLYER specialist dealer directly. Here are the original operating instructions.

Why can I only attain an insufficient final speed with my S-pedelec?

From 42 – 43 km/h, the assistance is gradually reduced and completely switched off at 45 km/h. The reason for this is compliance with the legal requirements in combination with the most harmonious possible shutdown behavior.

My e-bike has a continuous ENVIOLO gear. What can I do about pedaling too high a frequency?

The gears may need to be calibrated. Depending on the installed system, this must be regulated either mechanically or electronically. Please contact your official FLYER specialist dealer.

Why do the derailleur gears wear out in a short time?

On an e-bike, the gears are exposed to extreme loads. The human pedaling power is increased up to three times by the motor. Derailleur gears remain the first choice for a sporty riding style. They are very efficient and allow quick gear changes. Consequently, the high maintenance effort and wear and tear are disadvantages.

The lowest number of teeth are engaged in the chain at high speeds. Often, however, these speeds are used over long periods of time and with great power. In extreme cases, the gears have to be replaced after only a few hundred kilometers. Warranty and guarantee are excluded here because it is a matter of wear and tear.

What can I do about premature wear of derailleur gears?

If you follow the advice below, you can expect a significantly longer lifetime of chain and sprockets:

  • Start in low gears, use ALL gears, anticipate and shift diligently
(load-reduced, i.e. as quietly as possible. With high-torque motors, the chain can break due to improper shifting. Tip for proper shifting: Take the pressure off the chain when shifting).
  • Ride at medium pedaling frequencies (at least 60—80 pedal revolutions per minute), avoid “heavy” gears and avoid unnecessarily high motor power.
  • Keep the drive clean and add some lubricant to the chain links from time to time. Wipe off any unnecessary lubricant.
Why do FLYER bikes have disc brakes instead of rim brakes?

The disc brake brakes constantly in all weather conditions and is therefore the safe variant.

What can be done about braking noise?

It is true that large-diameter brake discs are prone to vibrations that can be heard “singing” at higher speeds. There are several possible causes of disturbing braking noise:

  • Dampness
  • Failure to run in new brake pads
  • Absence of occasional hot braking
  • Vitrified brake pads due to continuous braking
  • Brake caliper not centered
  • Filling level for brake fluid too high
  • Distorted brake discs with lateral run out
  • Tire pressure

Contact your FLYER specialist dealer, they can help you reduce the braking noise.

My e-bike has damaged paint, what can I do?

The FLYER specialist dealers can order paint pencils from us, which can be used to repair minor paint damage. Please contact your specialist dealer.

Battery

How do I charge the battery properly?

You can charge the battery separately or directly on your FLYER e-bike at any time without shortening its lifetime. Only use the supplied charger or an identical charger for charging. Interrupting the charging process does not damage the battery. All of our batteries are characterized by long-lasting energy storage with no charge memory.

How long do I have to charge my battery for?

The charging time depends on the capacity of your battery and the charging current of your charger. The approximate charging time can be calculated as follows: Capacity of the battery in ampere-hours (e.g. 16Ah) divided by the charging current of the charger in ampere (e.g. 4A) = approximately 4h charging time. The higher the charging current of the charger, the faster the battery is charged.

What happens if I charge the battery for too long?

A battery management system is integrated into the batteries to protect them against overcharging, undervoltage and overheating. Single cell monitoring ensures safe, reliable and gentle charging.

How should I store the e-bike battery?

If the bike is going to be stored for a longer period of time, e.g. over the winter, we recommend that you charge the battery to a charge level of 40-60% and store it in a dry location at room temperature. Check the charging status after six to eight weeks at the latest and recharge the battery a little if necessary.

Can my battery be used with any e-bike?

No, batteries are only compatible within their own product line and cannot be used with other models or brands.

How long is the service life of my battery?

Basically, a battery loses about 10% of its capacity per year. However, the exact service life cannot be predicted as this depends on the nature and duration of the stress to which it is subjected. We recommend switching to a new battery after about four to five years.

Can I prolong the service life of my battery?

Following simple rules for protection, transport and correct storage can have a positive impact on the service life of the battery.

Keep your e-bike battery in a dry environment and protect it from direct sunlight. A room temperature of 15 to 20 degrees Celsius is ideal for storing your battery. Batteries should also be charged at room temperature. When transporting your e-bike, it is best to remove the battery and store it safely in your car.

How far can I go with one battery charge? What factors have an effect on range?

The range depends on many factors. In addition to battery capacity, the selected level of motor assistance, geographical conditions, road surface, pedal frequency, and not least the weight of the rider and their luggage as well as tire pressure all play a decisive role.

Low temperatures in winter mean that your range will be reduced. Charge your battery inside and only attach it to your e-bike shortly before you set off.

Get more helpful tips on battery & range from our guide.

How can I protect the e-bike battery in winter?

Cold weather reduces battery performance. In winter, it is best to store your e-bike battery at room temperature and only attach it to your e-bike just before the ride.

Can I have the performance and capacity of my battery checked?

Yes. If you want to check the performance of your e-bike batteries, contact your FLYER specialist dealer.

Why is my battery low or faulty?

The bicycle battery is a wearing part that lasts an average of five years. Less used batteries in particular lose capacity more quickly. Batteries that are used on a daily basis can also become significantly older than five years. In any case, however, an annual capacity loss of five to ten per cent is to be expected. In addition to storing the battery at room temperature (e.g. over the winter), it is advisable to only charge the battery up to 75 % if it is not used for a longer period of time and to briefly connect it to the charger every two to three weeks. This procedure can have a positive effect on durability.

The latest generation of FIT / Panasonic batteries has a Long Life mode, which can extend the service life of the FIT batteries. This function can be set via the display. As a result, the battery charges at a lower charging current and always remains within a voltage range of 20% to 80%.

I want to clean my e-bike. What do I need to be aware of?

Remove your battery before cleaning your e-bike. Make sure you don’t allow too much water to run into the battery interface. If necessary, use a protective cap for the battery interface to avoid direct contact with dirt and water.

You can clean the battery with a damp cloth when required. Do not use aggressive detergents.

Can my battery be repaired?

Unfortunately, we cannot repair defective batteries. If you think that your battery is no longer working, let a FLYER specialist dealer check it. They will establish if the battery really has a defect or if there is some other problem.

Where can I dispose of my e-bike battery?

Take your e-bike battery to your FLYER specialist dealer. They will check to see if the battery really has a defect or if there is some other problem in the electronics. If your battery has a defect, your FLYER specialist dealer will dispose of it properly. You already paid to have the battery disposed of when you bought your e-bike or battery.
